New Delhi, 04 July 2025: A serious case of cheating was recently discovered during the IGNOU Term-End Examination held in Delhi. The invigilator caught a student using a small piece of paper with written notes during the exam. According to reports shared online, the invigilator noticed the student referring to the cheat sheet and immediately took away her answer sheet. The invigilator asked her to sign a statement admitting the act. Although they allowed her to finish the exam, they informed her that the university could cancel her result after an official review. This incident is not the only one of its kind. Another student shared a similar case where an invigilator caught a candidate cheating but only took away the paper and still allowed the student to continue writing without taking any further action. These inconsistencies in handling cases show that some exam centres are not strictly following the university guidelines.
To ensure fairness and maintain trust in its examination system, IGNOU has filed an official case regarding the recent cheating incident. The university will review the case and decide whether to cancel the student’s exam or apply other penalties.
IGNOU has clear rules about cheating and using unfair means during exams. The university can penalize any student found guilty by cancelling the paper, marking it under ‘Unfair Means’ (UFM), or even suspending the student in severe cases. The university has always promoted honesty and discipline in its distance learning system, and cheating goes against these values.
Exam centres are advised to follow strict monitoring during IGNOU exams to prevent such incidents. IGNOU reminds students to come fully prepared and not to bring any unauthorised materials. Cheating not only affects one’s future but also lowers the value of IGNOU’s degrees for all honest students.
This case is a strong reminder to all students that dishonesty during exams can lead to serious consequences. IGNOU’s decision to take legal steps shows its strong stand on academic integrity and fair education.
