IGNOU Degree Validity – High Court Raises Concerns Over System Despite Trust

New Delhi, 30 June 2025:The Kerala High Court has recently upheld the IGNOU degree validity, stating that students do not need any additional certificate of equivalency from state universities. This significant ruling came in response to a case where a student was denied his State Eligibility Test (SET) certificate simply because he completed his master’s degree from IGNOU and hadn’t submitted an equivalency certificate.

Court Supports IGNOU Student

The student had cleared the SET exam in Kerala, but the authorities refused to give him the eligibility certificate. He took the matter to court, and the High Court ruled in his favor. Justice D.K. Singh clearly stated that the University Grants Commission (UGC) recognizes IGNOU as a Central University, and its degrees are valid across India.

The judge said that asking for equivalency certificates from students who studied in well-known institutions like IGNOU, IITs, or NITs is not right and goes against the law. It also creates unnecessary problems for students who have studied at trusted universities.

Good News for IGNOU Admission 2025 Applicants

This decision is especially good news for students applying for IGNOU admission 2025. This decision confirms that government bodies, universities, and exam authorities will accept IGNOU degrees for jobs, higher studies, and professional exams without asking for extra paperwork from state universities. Students can apply with confidence through the official portal: ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in.

Court Directs Authorities to Issue Certificate Without Delay

The court also ordered the SET authorities to give the eligibility certificate to the student right away, saying that denying it was unfair. The court supported earlier decisions where government bodies accepted degrees from UGC-approved universities without asking for extra validation.

This decision is a big win for students who choose open and distance learning. It clearly shows that authorities across India fully recognize and respect the validity of IGNOU degrees, and they should not discriminate against students based on where they studied.
